PRACTICAL-EVALUATION INTERNSHIP REGULATION
QUALIFYING DEGREES LM-51 (L. 163/2021 – INTERM. DEGREE)
General information
To qualify to practice the profession of psychologist, students enrolled in the LM-51 qualifying degree courses must obtain 20 ECTS credits, of which:
- 18 ECTS, equal to 450 hours, through carrying out the practical-evaluative internship (hereinafter TPV) at external bodies already affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology;
- 2 ECTS, equal to 50 hours, carried out and managed internally within the LM-51 Study Course.
Only and exclusively for students who have not achieved, all or in part, the 10 credits of professional training activities required during the degree courses in Psychological Sciences and Techniques class L-24, the number of TPV credits can increase up to a maximum of 28 (therefore for a total of hours up to a maximum of 700). For these students, it will be possible to carry out at the Institution the CFU of TPV professional activities not acquired in the L-24 in addition to the 18 expected, by inserting the total number of CFU in the training project signed by the manager of the Institution and the Trainee.
The 18 credits of TPV take the form of professional training activities to be carried out at external bodies already affiliated with the Faculty and supervised by a tutor within the body (a psychologist registered in the professional Register of Psychologists section A for at least three years).
The timing of the TPV to be carried out during the course of study is articulated in the teaching regulations of each course (consult the "Training path" page of your study course: https://medpsi.web.uniroma1.it/it/corsi-di-laurea-e-laurea-magistrale

Please find below the summary calendar of deadlines scheduled during the academic year for the qualifying LM-51:

After completing the TPV with a positive outcome, the student can access the Practical Evaluative Test (hereinafter PPV), an essential prerequisite for accessing the graduation session. For information about the PPV, please see the following link (available soon). Both the agreement with the institutions and the offer/request for an internship are carried out only through the Internship Management System.

The list of bodies recognized as suitable and affiliated can be consulted by future interns in the Internship Management System.
In the presence of this agreement, Sapienza University of Rome will be able to insure the interns with INAIL insurance against accidents at work and with an insurance company for civil liability against third parties. Details of the insurance policies are available on the Student Insurance Policies website | Sapienza University of Rome (uniroma1.it).
The number of trainees that each organization can welcome is at the organization's discretion in compliance with the general rules established by the Agreement between the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology and the Order of Psychologists of the Lazio Region.
The signing of the agreement is subject to the approval of the Institution by the Integrated Commission of the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology and the Order of Psychologists of Lazio.

What are the methods and times for carrying out the TPV?
The methods and times for carrying out the TPV are described in the teaching regulations of each course (consult the "Training path" page of your study program: https://medpsi.web.uniroma1.it/it/corsi-di-laurea-e-laurea-magistrale).
The internship must be carried out entirely at a single institution.
The tutor will evaluate, together with the intern, the best temporal organization of the internship activity within the limits of the foreseen period. A maximum of 40 hours per week is recommended. TPV must be carried out in person, except for cases subject to specific evaluation by the Integrated Commission.

What must the student do to apply for TPV?
The instructions for submitting the application through the Internship Management Software can be found in the Instruction Manual for using the Internship Management Software for students.
In short, to apply for TPV, the student must:
1. access theInternship Management System using your Infostud or SPID or CIE identification number and password (as for accessing Infostud). In the management system, it is possible to:

  • select your course of study and view the affiliated institutions suggested by the course;
  • view the deadlines for applying;

2. apply to the chosen body during the application period;
3. download the attendance record (which, in addition to the formal attestation of attendance, includes the evaluation of the skills shown by the intern and the suitability judgment issued by the tutor); the attendance record (booklet) must be completed and signed by the intern and the tutor.

How do TPV registration, evaluation, and attestation take place?
The TPV activities are recorded in a special booklet filled in and signed by the Trainee and countersigned by the Tutor. The Booklet is the document in which the intern’s activity is recorded, evaluated, and certified. In particular:

  • the daily and overall attendance/hours of TPV of the Trainee at the Institution's headquarters are recorded (with the indication of date, time, activity, signature of the Trainee and the Tutor);
  • the skills acquired with the TPV by the Trainee are evaluated through the indication of scores (A: Excellent; B: Excellent; C: Good; D: Sufficient; E: insufficient) on each of the expected professional skills;
  • passing the TPV is certified by indicating a final suitability assessment signed by the Tutor and the organisation's corporate manager.

What happens if the Trainee does not obtain TPV eligibility from the Institution?
The student who obtains a negative evaluation of the internship activities (NOT suitable) will have to repeat the TPV, or part of it, at another institution and acquire the aforementioned judgment of suitability for the purposes of participating in the qualifying final exam.

What to do at the end of the internship?
Please remember that the TPV is considered passed once the suitability judgment has been obtained from the Institution's Tutor. Upon achieving the required 18 credits (450 hours), the intern must:
1. fill out the evaluation questionnaire in the ''Internships'' area of the Internship Management System;
2. upload the booklet in PDF format (completed, signed, and stamped) relating to the TPV carried out on the Internship Management Software by accessing the "Internships" area no later than 3 days after the end of the internship (please remember that uploading the booklet is mandatory for students’ purposes of access to the PPV). The booklet uploaded to the management system is approved by the Student Secretariat and allows access to the PPV and the final exam (graduation session);
3. declare the completion of the internship by accessing the “Internships” area and clicking on “Declaration completion of the internship”.

Is it possible to suspend the TPV?
It is not possible to suspend the TPV. If it is impossible to continue the internship within the expected time frame for serious and documented reasons, the intern must promptly contact the Student Administrative Secretariat (segrstudenti.psicologia@uniroma1.it). The evaluation and solution of the case are submitted to the judgment of the Integrated Commission and the President of the relevant Study Course.

What to do to establish agreements with new organizations in Italy?
Organizations that do not yet have an active agreement must:

  • register on the Internship Management System;
  • follow the procedure reported in the instruction manual for the use of the internship management system for institutions to request accreditation;
  • upload the required documentation.

Registration can only take place in the three foreseen periods:
- September 1-30;
- February 1-28;
- May 1-31.
Proposals for agreements with new bodies are subject to approval by the Faculty-Order Integrated Commission; only after approval is the agreement signed with the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, which lasts three years. We remind you of the prerequisites that the organization must satisfy for the purposes of requesting an agreement:

  • have been established for at least three years;
  • have a psychologist tutor on staff (registered in the professional register of psychologists section A for at least three years) who maintains a continuous, consolidated, and renewable collaborative relationship with the organization over time. It is not possible to enter into the agreement with individual professional firms. Once the convention is activated, applying during the specified periods will be possible.

How should an organization already has an agreement proceed to welcome interns?
Institutions with an active agreement that intend to welcome interns must:

  • access your reserved area on the Internship Management System;
  • offer internship positions (open the internship period);
  • screen, select, and accept/reject trainees' applications;
  • upload the training project of the selected trainees. At the following link, there is the instruction manual for the use of the internship management system for institutions (link shortly).

Who is the internship tutor, and what does he do?
The tutor is a psychologist registered in the professional register (in section A) for at least three years with a position at the host institution who, for the entire duration of the internship, has the functions envisaged by the Convention of the Order of Psychologists of the Lazio Region and the Faculty of Medicine and Psychology of April 12, 2023. Each tutor can supervise up to a maximum of five trainees at the same time, regardless of the number of locations in which he or she operates (the tutor declares and undersigns, pursuant to Presidential Decree 445/2000, that the number of trainees in the psychological area he supervises is not greater than five in total). The tutor fills in and signs the attendance record and issues the suitability assessment for the internship's validity.
In the event that the tutor has to interrupt the assignment for any reason, even of a temporary nature, the Institution must replace him with a psychologist on staff who meets the requirements established by the Agreement. The institution will communicate the replacement of the tutor to the Integrated Commission by sending an email to tirocinipsicologia@uniroma1.it. If the interruption of the assignment, even if temporary, occurs during the supervision of an internship, it must also be reported in the Internship Management System (Application Area) by clicking on the "TRAINING PROJECT" icon and inserting the information in the appropriate notes "CHANGE TUTOR". Also, in this case, the tutor must be replaced by a psychologist registered in the Professional Register of Psychologists for at least three years.

Can the TPV be carried out abroad?
The internship can be carried out abroad, even during the Erasmus period, subject to authorization from your Course of Study and approval from the Integrated Commission.
To carry out the internship at a foreign institution, the intern must independently contact the institution and send the following documentation via email to the Internship Office (tirocinipsicologia@uniroma1.it), during the three foreseen periods:

  • motivation letter from the intern;
  • Degree Course authorization letter;
  • The contact details and the information about the foreign organization and the activities it carries
    out in accordance with the provisions of current legislation on the TPV;
  • The contact details of the tutor psychologist, already licensed to practice in their own country,
    specifying the type of assignment at the foreign host institution;
  • the Institution's favourable opinion to welcome the intern;
  • the program of TPV activities proposed by the tutor psychologist. All the documents issued by the Institution must be provided with stamps and signatures from the responsible person(s) from the Institution by specifying the role of the signing person.

The documentation must be sent to the Internship Office during the three foreseen periods:

  • September 1-30;
  • February 1-28;
  • May 1-31.

The Integrated Commission (Faculty-Order) evaluates the information sent and judges whether the foreign institution is suitable or unsuitable for carrying out the TPV.
If the foreign organization is deemed suitable by the Integrated Commission, the Internship Office starts the process of signing the agreement, which lasts one year.

Once the agreement has been activated, the intern must:

  • submit the application and the training project duly completed, signed, and stamped by the Institution via email to the Student Secretariat (segrstudenti.psicologia@uniroma1.it) during the foreseen application periods;
  • download and fill in the attendance booklet ;
  • once the TPV (18 CFU, 450 hours) is finished, send a scan of the booklet (completed, signed, and stamped) to the email address segrstudenti.psicologia@uniroma1.it. Upon request, the Internship Office (email: tirocinipsicologia@uniroma1.it) can send contacts of foreign entities that have received Faculty interns in the past.
  • There are no constraints with respect to the country; the internship can also take place in countries outside Europe, as long as they are not at-risk countries, according to criteria and guidelines of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Reference legislation
- Law 8 November 2021 n. 163
- Interministerial Decree n. 654 of 05.07.2022

Internal Internship Commission and Integrated Faculty-Order Commission
An internal internship commission is active at the Faculty. The Commission is chaired by the Dean of the Faculty (or his delegate) and by a representative for each of the three psychology departments of the Faculty. The internal Commission monitors TPV activities by analysing available data, reports any critical issues to the Faculty, the Presidents of the LM-51 courses, or the Integrated Commission (see below), and promotes quality assurance of the planned activities.
For the evaluation of the bodies to be affiliated with and for other general purposes, the Internship Commission is integrated by an equal number of members of the Council of the Order of Psychologists of the Lazio Region. The Faculty-Order Integrated Commission meets at least three times a year (during March, June, and October) to evaluate the bodies affiliated with the Faculty. The Integrated Commission may authorize derogations from this regulation following assessment of exceptional situations. The Integrated
Commission may also provide for the suspension of an Agreement following serious reports of non-compliance by the Institution with the provisions of current legislation or with the provisions of the Code of Conduct for Italian Psychologists.
